The trailer of DC’s new film Blue Beetle dropped last week and is already garnering lots of discussions online between fandoms. The film promises to be a quirky and fun origin story of the titular superhero who will also be the first Latin superhero of DC. Blue Beetle follows the plotline of a teenager named Jamie Reyes from El Paso who comes into contact with the extraterrestrial Blue Beetle Scarab, which attached itself to the base of his spine, giving him a variety of powers including speed, strength, and flight.

The trailer of the film that dropped online on 3rd April has received thousands of views with keen-eyed DC fans analyzing the clip multiple times to derive clues about the narrative. Apart from responding favorably to the trailer, netizens took to social media to talk about their hopes for the film and to also compare it with failed DC films like Black Adam and Shazam! 2.

With Dwayne Johnson and Zachary Levi failing to set the box office on fire with their films, all eyes will now be on young Cobra Kai actor Xolo Mariduena to see if he can bring credibility to DC with Blue Beetle.

Blue Beetle Runs Into Controversy

Despite the trailer of Blue Beetle enjoying positive responses from DC fans, the film has run into a bit of trouble due to a controversial statement by one of the characters. The comment which was made by veteran George Lopez’s character involved him calling one of DC’s greatest superheroes Batman, a fascist towards the end of the trailer. Following this, netizens immediately took to social media to express their displeasure about the statement especially since it was made against an iconic superhero like Batman.

Another section of fans disagreed and supported the film and the statement by saying that these comments that were made in a lighthearted fashion must be taken at face value and understood as an effort at humor.
