It has been a busy few days for Beyond Good & Evil, as its 20th Anniversary edition has been released on all platforms for players to enjoy, but not every portion of the game is how players remember it.

For those old enough to remember the original Beyond Good & Evil, there was one specific quest that wasn’t originally in the game that has been added in this new version, and it has added all kinds of backstory that will have fans of the franchise giddy with excitement.

We Finally Get to Learn About Jade’s Backstory in Beyond Good & Evil, or at Least Part of It

One of the biggest mysteries of the original Beyond Good & Evil story was its protagonist, Jade, as very little information was ever shared about her, leaving players to fill in the blanks for all these years.

However, with the potential upcoming release of the franchise sequel, players have been granted a new side quest that they can play through, which provides us with a rather interesting amount of backstory for our mysterious protagonist.

During this short side quest, players will be tasked with exploring the world of Beyond Good & Evil and opening certain lockers that have some rather interesting objects within.

Each locker will obtain an MDisk, which reveals some information regarding the crew of the Gada. The crew of the Gada has been the main attraction for Beyond Good & Evil 2 in its trailers.

Each MDisk is designated to one of the four crew members who called the Gada home during their times as pirates, as Jade’s mother, A.K.A. the Captain, narrates how each of these individuals managed to impact Jade’s childhood during her time aboard their ship and as a part of their family.

It has been roughly 7 years since we received our first look at Beyond Good & Evil 2, and it took many gamers by surprise as it looked like a major step from the Beyond Good & Evil we know, but in a good way.

During this first trailer, in E3 2017, we got a glimpse at the Gada crew in action as they trick a merchant into believing he is getting an artifact, but is in fact being conned so the crew can gain a map to what seemed to be a lost treasure.

However, the second trailer, which was revealed at E3 in 2018, completely changed in tone, as the first trailer was quite comedic and action-packed, whereas the second trailer took a dark turn as the Gada is boarded by a dark presence, which, according to Pey’j’s surprise, was Jade.

This took many gamers by surprise, as we have only seen Jade as the kind, loving person from the first game, but if these MDisks are anything to go by, Jade could have a dark past we never knew about that Pey’j kept secret from her for many years.

Since the MDisks only reveal that Jade was a happy infant with many “good” role models around her, we can only assume there is some form of darkness in her past that she has forgotten, which led to her and Pey’j abandoning the crew they once called family.
