Starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, the film follows an unlikely romance between a wealthy businessman, Edward Lewis, and a charismatic prostitute, Vivian. Grossing over $463 million at the box office, the movie was a huge hit and even earned Roberts an Oscar nomination.
During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Blunt shared a hilarious story, where a little white lie became her father’s gateway to enjoy the classic romantic comedy.

Emily Blunt Recalled Her Father’s Lie About A Pretty Woman Scene
During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Emily Blunt recalled how her father would always buy movies he wanted to see, which were often inappropriate for kids. When asked if she watched those movies, the actress recalled seeing Julia Roberts‘ 1990 film Pretty Woman.
Talking about the scene where Vivian offers Edward a choice of condoms, Blunt shared that as a kid, she thought Roberts’ character was offering sweets to Edward. “I was, like, ‘Oh, that’s so cool, she’s, like, giving him sweets to choose from,'” she recalled.
And her father played along with her misconception, telling her that they were indeed sweets “and he can choose which one he wanted.” While she admitted that she might not have understood most of it at the time, Blunt also shared that she was “disturbed” upon watching the movie later.
“I was disturbed when I watched it later on in life,” she shared. Despite the confusion from her childhood and humorously describing the experience as a “big mistake, huge [mistake]” she also shared that Pretty Woman is a good movie, and she loved it.
