The developers have named Ages to be one of their biggest features in a Civilization 7 game yet. They emphasize in the gameplay showcase that this is the biggest new feature.. This new mechanic gives players better insight into the kind of world they’re building, and how the civilization shapes up to be.

In previous games, progress felt a bit one-dimensional and linear, based on the kind of leader players picked. While there have been a handful of ways a civilization can come out as a winner, there wasn’t much players could do when it came to its complexity.

However, all of that changes with Civilization 7. Divided into several different timelines, Ages helps you structure your growth better. For instance, the Antiquity Age forms the roots of a new civilization.

The Exploration Age lets your people brave the world a bit better. The Modern Age showcases a time when technological growth is at its peak, and humans push their limits for everything that’s yet to be discovered and invented.

Players can play each Age as its own entity, or weave it into their journey as they like. This hasn’t been explored properly, and certainly adds more depth to the potential of a Civilization game.

Along with the core changes to how an era would work in the game, diverse cultural elements are also a part of the narrative. This time around, players will experience a better and more authentic representation of different cultures in Civilization 7.

How players manage different units and choose where to grow their potential will be highly based on the kind of leaders they choose to engage with. Moreover, this is reflected in the game’s visual density. Cities now look more populated, and structures feel a bit more realistic.

This is essential to the game’s replayability factor, as era-specific progress marks the beginning of strategizing your moves. After all, every turn counts, and it’s good to know where your efforts are being utilized.
