Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which served as the last film in Phase Four of Marvel Studios, has been quite a success at the box office. The movie deals with the loss of the king of their nation Wakanda, after the unfortunate passing of Chadwick Boseman. Directed by Ryan Coogler, the sequel to Black Panther (2018) was quite the grand ending of Phase Four, much loved by fans and critics.

May it be the excellent plot and the depth of characters, or the mourning of Boseman that allowed fans to have such an emotional connection to the sequel, Black Panther 2 has made quite a mark in the history of Marvel, and could probably topple over Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness in being Highest Grossing Marvel film of 2022.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever could become Highest grossing Marvel film of 2022

While 2022 did not seem quite the year for Marvel in the beginning, the release of Doctor Strange 2 and Black Panther 2 showed quite the potential to turn the tables around. Benedict Cumberbatch starring in Doctor Strange 2 did remarkable work which resulted in the movie earning $800 million in the worldwide ticket, just coming second to Spiderman: No Way Home. The movie set up a mark that may quite be reached by the release of Black Panther 2.

While Black Panther 2 missed beating Doctor Strange 2 by $6 million in opening weekend domestic gross, the movie showed no more than a 63% second-week drop. As it seems, the 10 days’ earnings of the movie catch up with the second solo outing of Doctor Strange 2. If the hype continues, Black Panther 2 may soon become Marvel’s highest-grossing film.

The fan’s and critics’ reactions to the movie are fairly positive with a good amount of reviews. The audience score of the movie on Rotten Tomatoes is 95%, overcoming Doctor Strange 2 and Thor: Love and Thunder, also from Marvel Studio’s Phase Four.

Black Panther 2 reasons for success

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has been quite a name in the recent days of Marvel Studios. The recently released movie has acclaimed great success in such a short period.

The movie deals with the loss of their king T’Challa, after which his sister Shuri becomes the new Black Panther. The movie also features Tenoch Huerta as Namor, who acts as an antagonist to the nation of Wakanda. Director Ryan Coogler was well-appreciated for giving Namor’s character depth rather than just naming him as the bad guy, despite the lack of much original material on him from the comics.

The movie’s cast of black people, as well as the portrayal of strong women characters in lead, breaks the walls of racism as well as patriarchy in one go. Also, Shuri being the successor of T’Challa as the next Black Panther is indicative of how slowly, but steadily, the nation of Wakanda is ready to move on.

The mid-credits of the movie reveal T’Challa’s son with Nakia, which could be quite the opening for a possible Black Panther 3.
