A mashup of Bloodborne and Mario Kart, this unofficial title has been in the works for the last six years, starting life off as a meme. What some may have brushed off as a simple joke has been awakened from the Hunter’s Dream and is ready to take to the horror-filled streets of Yharnam in January 2024.

There are a lot of details around currently regarding Bloodborne Kart and with the recent reveal trailer, we have seen what to expect from the upcoming title. A variety of vehicles including wheelchairs, carriages, and gothic bikes will be available for players to choose from and as expected a selection of weapons including, rope molatovs, hunter pistols, Gatling guns and many more.

Taking to the mean streets of Yharnam, there are 12 racers to choose from and 16 different maps in which to compete. Bloodborne Kart has a full single-player mode with accompanying boss battles, and from the trailer, we can see a boss battle with Father Gascoigne, which only piques the interest of who the other bosses may be.

The game also has a VS Battle Mode and a local split-screen multiplayer so there is plenty to look forward to with this upcoming title. Sure it might only have graphics that are reminiscent of a PlayStation 1 game, but it’s quirky and who needs HD-quality graphics in every game they play to enjoy it?

Some eagle-eyed fans who have watched the Bloodborne Kart reveal trailer may have picked up on a very cool nod to one of the greatest manga movies ever made. That is indeed the Akira slide that is being performed on one of the gothic bikes, and no doubt fans will be looking forward to seeing that first-hand.

Bloodborne is still regarded as one of the greatest video games of all time.

What started life as a simple meme nearly six years ago has finally found its way to fruition, and come January of next year, fans can experience the unofficial Bloodborne driving game for themselves. Bloodborne Kart looks to be a fun experience for those who have enjoyed the official game and also enjoy a few laps of Mario Kart.

Game Dev, Lilith Walther, who coded on 2015’s Bloodborne, revealed the trailer on Halloween through their social media channel @b0tster and that the game would be coming to PC via Itch.io. the reaction from fans was overwhelmingly positive with many commenting that they could not wait to get their hands on the game, some even hoping to stream the game live.

Whilst it is clear Bloodborne Kart is not going to win any awards in terms of graphics and gameplay, it should be looked at for what it is, a fun unofficial mashup of two amazing games. Who is to say that we won’t see other franchises have an unofficial ‘kart’ game released at some point in the future?

It’s clear that the passion for the original Bloodborne game has led to this amazing pet project being developed and we look forward to taking to the streets of Yharnam again next year, albeit to experience it again in a slightly different format with Bloodborne Kart.
