Amidst the hype of Season 2, the BLUE LOCK Egoiste Festa 2023 event held on November 26, 2023, premiered the official trailer for Blue Lock Episode Nagi. It was followed by a new visual that confirmed that the movie is scheduled for a release on April 19, 2024, in Japanese theatres. Shunsuke Ishikawa will direct the film while mangaka Muneyeki Kaneshiro will write the script.

According to the original spinoff manga, Episode Nagi will explore the friendship between Seishiro Nagi and his partner Reo Mikage. The manga is divided into three volumes with over ten chapters so it was a correct decision to adapt the spinoff into a movie.

What Is Blue Lock About?

One of the best-sellers of 2023, Kaneshiro’s manga offers football as a ground for the development of the characters while featuring special powers centered on the game. They don’t come off as absurdly unbelievable. For example, Spatial Awareness is a mind technique that allows a player to view the entire field, and Bachira’s Elastic Dribbling utilizes battle moves such as feints.

The manga’s story is centered on football coach Ego Jinpachi’s goal to make Japan number 1 after the team’s humiliation in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He began a special program called Blue Lock to get the best egotist player to captain Japan in the World Cup. Athletes are isolated in a facility and are made to develop their egos and football skills to be the best.

The training program is highly controversial because if a player failed, they would never have the chance to represent Japan in the world stage. Yoichi Isagi, a high school football player, signed up in the hopes of attaining fame and becoming the best striker in the world. Along with him are three hundred other high school players.
