Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, the sequel spin-off of one of the biggest anime series in the world, Naruto has suffered a huge blow as the anime series has been rumored to be postponed till 2027-2028. After the conclusion of the Naruto Shippuden anime, the Boruto anime premiered in April 2017. After that, the anime aired once a week, until episode 293 was broadcast in March of 2023. The manga’s first section of the story was wrapped up in April 2023, and after a short break, the second half of the story, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, was released in August of the same year.

Fans won’t see time-skip Boruto animated for another three or four years if the rumor is accurate. But the manga will go on as planned, meaning that at least it will continue to provide monthly sustenance for followers of Boruto. This may be a much bigger blow for the animation studio as One Piece continues to dominate mainstream shonen even after 30 years.

The Reason Behind Boruto Being Postponed Till 2027-2028

A trustworthy anime leaker on X(Formerly Twitter) @Worllff claims that Studio Pierrot has put back the release of the Boruto anime by a few years. There won’t be another anime until 2027 or 2028. Should Studio Pierrot opt not to postpone the release, a possible comeback for Boruto might entail a reduction in animation quality.

The studio that is behind this series, Studio Pierrot, has apparently made the decision to shift its focus away from the usual long-form strategy that has sustained much of anime’s global success and instead concentrate on providing content of greater quality in a seasonal format.

The delay will also offer the studio an opportunity to obtain some additional source material to work on, as the Boruto manga is a monthly series that offers a limited source material to work on and the anime might catch up to it. However, it ultimately sheds light on the fact that even after facing similar problems, One Piece still has been dominating the shonen anime world for so many years.

Studio Pierrot Will Now Focus On Other Anime Series

In a recent interview which was posted by @Anhiksi, Studio Pierrot’s managing director, Kiero Itsumi, disclosed that the animation company will prioritize creating high-caliber anime in a seasonal style rather than a long-form structure with a select few “some good episodes.”

In light of this, the managing director disclosed that, for the time being at least, all of their attention is on “Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War,” and that, if necessary, they would convert other titles they owned into seasonal anime. The unexpected release devastated Boruto fans because they had been waiting far too long for the anime to return.

Looking back, the break in the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime represents a significant turning point in the development of anime production and fandom. While the series may take some time to return if Studio Pierrot’s decision about improving the animation quality works, Boruto might improve and could potentially become one of the biggest anime series ever.
