Boruto: Naruto Next Generations had a lot of expectations riding on it. After Naruto Shippuden concluded in 2017, it left a gaping hole in every anime fan’s heart. Bidding farewell to their favorite characters was pretty hard for them. But after the prequel was announced, everyone jumped out of their seats. Even though a lot was riding on Boruto, it could not live up to its predecessor’s success.

Currently, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has regained the trust of the fans, but several elements did not sit well with the fans. Two of those elements was the Tenseigan and the Jougan. There are more than a few dojutsu in the Naruto franchise. Introducing another one for the sake of the story sounded too far-fetched. Many complained that exploring the depths of the Byakugan would have been better.

Tenseigan Is A Luxury That Was Never Needed

Naruto concluded without explaining several techniques. One of them was the Byakugan. The special Kekkei Genkai passed down in the Hyuga clan had great potential, but it was hardly explored in Masashi Kishimoto’s magnum opus. Sharingan and Rinnegan took most of the credit and screen time. The best the Byakugan ever did was during the fight between Naruto Uzumaki vs. Neji Hyuga in the Chunin Exams. Recently, one of the fans wrote on Reddit that it would have been better if Boruto inherited the Byakugan instead of the Jougan.

Kishimoto made a huge mistake not giving Boruto the Byakugan

The Reddit post said that Naruto and Hinata’s genes mixing led to the formation of the Tenseigan. But it sounded lame and only worked in stretching the plot. The protagonist does not always need a new ability. Moreover, only limited abilities like rotation, gentle fist, and Hinata’s Hakke Sojishi Hogeki were showcased by the Byakugan. Boruto could have unlocked more abilities of the Byakugan instead of unlocking the Jougan. The tons of dojutsu already make it hard to remember every one of them.

It is as if Masashi Kishimoto forgot to give him the Byakugan, and so introduced Tenseigan. The plot would also have been better. It would have painted a clearer picture of the Kekkei Genkai in the fans’ minds. Hyuga’s are the descendants of Hamura Otsutsuki, while Naruto received Hagoromo Otsutsuki’s chakra. Just like the concept of Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, the Byakugan could also have another more potent form.

Boruto Is Trying Hard To Regain The Fans’ Trust

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations started airing after the conclusion of Naruto Shippuden. Like its predecessor, it soon picked up the habit of showing fillers. Out of the first 100 episodes, there was a massive number of fillers. The fans gave mixed reactions to the anime. The only good ratings came when Naruto and Sasuke took on Momoshiki. The plot walked the same monotonous path for several episodes until it took a dark turn.

The Naruto franchise is infamous for killing fan-favorite characters, and in Boruto, Kurama died. The Seventh Hokage and Hinata Hyuga were sent to another dimension. Even every character’s memories were altered. Currently, in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, the young protagonist is trying to bring back everything in its original shape. The path ahead of him is more perilous than anyone can imagine.

Fans are starting to turn to the sequel after a few massive developments. They are eagerly waiting to see how the events turn out. Boruto will battle Kawaki. How it will happen is keeping the fans glued to their seats. If only Byakugan could have been explored a bit more, it could have become a modern time great.
