Why Brad Pitt Felt He Owed Sandra Bullock Big Time

Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock are two A-list stars who share a close camaraderie in Hollywood. The two actors got the opportunity to take their friendship to the big screen in 2022 when Pitt starred in a cameo in Bullock’s The Lost City. This show of support made the Miss Congeniality star return the favor by appearing in Pitt’s film, Bullet Train.

In reality though, it was Pitt who owed Bullock for her generosity on a particular occasion and chose to let go of a day’s pay when his scheduled three-day contractual agreement for his cameo was extended unexpectedly by 24 hours. The reason for his graciousness stemmed from an incident in which Bullock instantly came to his rescue at the last minute for an event and saved the day. In an interview with Extra TV, the Oscar winner gushed about his friend’s selflessness and said,

“Let me tell you, I owe Sandy so many favors. This one time I called her to host a 10,000 person event and she was on holiday, and she left her holiday, got a gown and was there the next day. I mean, she’s an angel of a friend.”

While Pitt jokingly admitted that he would have to repay Bullock by accepting multiple requests to be in her films, he believed that it was his honor to do so for the unconditional support she offered as a friend.

Brad Pitt Did Not Heed His Mother’s Advice Regarding Apollo 13

While Brad Pitt’s current status in Hollywood allows him the perks of doing cameos for free, there was a time when the actor missed opportunities to take on marquee roles. In 1995, director Ron Howard cast Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton, and Kevin Bacon in Apollo 13, a biographical drama about NASA’s doomed trip to the moon in 1970.

The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $350 million worldwide during its theatrical release. Interestingly, Brad Pitt who was first offered the film, turned it down.

The actor was originally approached to play Kevin Bacon’s character but rejected the role to focus on David Fincher’s 1995 chilling serial killer movie, Seven. Pitt’s mother though, expressed her regret on her son passing up a promising role as an astronaut in Apollo 13. The actor spoke of the conversation and told Far Out Magazine,

“I was talking to my mom the other night and she said, ‘I just saw the best movie called Apollo [13].’ She said, ‘You have to do more movies like this!’ I said, ‘Mom, I turned Apollo 13 down for Seven! Wait until you see that movie!’”

As it turned out, Pitt’s instincts proved to be spot on, with Seven becoming a path-breaking film in the star’s career. It also gave the Mr and Mrs Smith actor a reputation of being a seasoned artist along with his heartthrob status in Hollywood.
