Brie Larson’s The Marvels may be the sequel to her 2019 blockbuster from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain Marvel, but it is nowhere even close to a masterpiece as the first movie from the film series. Not only has it earned hate and backlash from MCU fans from all around the globe, but its box-office numbers are equally disappointing to make the movie one of the biggest flops from the MCU to date.
In fact, the box-office milestone that Larson’s Captain Marvel sequel is currently carrying is disappointing enough to remove even the thought of greenlighting another threequel from the minds of Marvel’s executives.

Although Marvel tried really hard to promote the recent sequel to Brie Larson‘s 2019 blockbuster superhero movie Captain Marvel, it seems that their hard work didn’t pay off, judging from the insulting box-office numbers The Marvels currently holds.
Made on a gross production budget of a whopping $274.8 million, the movie was predicted and expected to bring in the same amount from the box offices worldwide. However, the film’s current global box office stands at close to $190 million, which is still a lot less than expected.

‘THE MARVELS’ crossed $190M at the worldwide box office.

As compared to Captain Marvel, which opened to $153 million only, the recent sequel faced an epic flop as it grossed only $47 million in its opening weekend. Furthermore, the movie’s second-week box office numbers showed an even worse defeat, accumulating a total of $10.2 million, making it the MCU’s most notable second-weekend drop.
So far, the global box-office numbers that Brie Larson’s The Marvels holds in store for the Marvel Cinematic Universe are humiliating—disappointing enough to never make Marvel greenlight a threequel ever again.

This film will barely limp to the $200 million milestone.
It needed over $600 million to break even.

Still not enough to save it from being a box office failure and being the lowest income for any MCU film

This is probably going to gross way below Green Lantern numbers that made nearly $220M worldwide on a $200M budget.

Considering the current situation that it is in, it seems like the Marvel Cinematic Universe will have to take some serious budget-related precautions for its upcoming movies to cope with the massive dent in their wallet inflicted by Brie Larson’s The Marvels.
