2023’s The Marvels was critically and commercia the worst MCU movie thus far. It was the sequel to Captain Marvel, and brought Carol Danvers together with Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan for an intergalactic adventure that brought them face-to-face with the Kree.
The movie failed to make a profit, but had a post-credit scene that bears a range of consequences with respect to the Multiverse, if used in a forthcoming project. The scene featured Monica Rambeau, or Binary, sporting a quantum band, which opens a range of narrative possibilities for the overall MCU.
Some fans on Reddit only recently came across the scene, but seem resigned to the possibility that it might not pay off for several years, if indeed it does.
Monica Rambeau sported a Quantum Band in The Marvels’ end-credit scene
The Quantum bands were created by the cosmic being known as Eon in the comics, and are only given to the protectors of the Universe. They tie to a range of franchises across the Marvel Comics, and have been sported by some of the most prominent characters across the multiverse.

For that reason, it being worn by Binary, who Monica Rambeau has already evolved into in the MCU, takes special significance. The character itself is a known ally of the X-Men, which also suggests that the Marvel bosses eventually aim to integrate Binary with the mutant team in the MCU.
The Marvels saw Kamala Khan use the Quantum band, which she first used in Ms. Marvel, along with her mother Aisha in flashback scenes. Related to the Kree empire, the bands are ancient relics that give the wearer powers to manipulate energy, create force fields, and perform quantum jumps.
In the comics, they show up regularly, and have been worn by villains such as Quasar as well. However, with regards to the MCU, another Quantum Band showing up may not represent much scope for the time being. The Marvels being a commercial disaster means that fans might as well have to wait for years until the Marvel bosses decide to make things make sense, with respect to Quantum bands and Binary.
Fans will hope the X-Men finally help the MCU offset The Marvels’ critical and commercial disaster
Deadpool and Wolverine will be released on July 26, only in theaters. | Marvel
The MCU’s phase five had gotten off to a poor start after the releases of Ant-Man 3 and Guardians of the Galaxy 3, although the latter was still a commercial success of sorts. However, The Marvels, the latest release, is the worst-performing movie amongst the MCU’s 33 films. (Box Office Mojo)
Things are now in a delicate state, with the resounding recent success of X-Men ‘97 set to build up to the release of Deadpool & Wolverine later this month. The July 26 release promises a lot, alongside the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
It also promises the introduction of several other X-Men in live-action, and there is little doubt that if executed properly, the MCU will have major players for years, on their hands. The X-Men have long been fan-favorites and characters such as Charles Xavier, Magneto, Raven and Wolverine represent stellar IPs that Marvel can easily make huge money off.
With early estimates also promising stellar collections for Deadpool & Wolverine, the movie might as well prove enough to instantaneously offset all the disappointment that has been recently associated with the MCU.
X-Men ‘97 is available to be streamed on DIsney+.
