Bruce Willis has been one of the most charismatic actors that the industry has seen. The actor has been in some of the most acclaimed and iconic films. His films like 12 Monkeys, Die Hard franchise, Unbreakable, The Sixth Sense, Sin City, and Looper have cemented him as a capable and interesting actor to witness on screen. But this year, the actor has been hit with a tragic illness that has greatly affected his health and his family.
Willis was recently diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia where his ability to speak and communicate has been greatly affected. His wife Emma Heming Willis also talked about the difficulties she and the family have been going through because of the illness. Now a new update regarding Willis’ illness shines a light on the continuing deterioration of his health.
Glenn Gordon Caron Stays Close With Bruce Willis Amidst His Deteriorating Health
Moonlighting creator Glenn Gordon Caron recently updated on his friend and collaborator Bruce Willis‘ health status since his diagnosis earlier this year. He emphasized that he tries to stay close to the actor but sadly he observes that Willis has lost the joy of living due to the illness. Caron told The New York Post,
“I’m not always quite that good but I try and I do talk to him and his wife [Emma Heming Willis] and I have a casual relationship with his three older children. I have tried very hard to stay in his life. He’s an extraordinary person. The thing that makes [his disease] so mind-blowing is [that] if you’ve ever spent time with Bruce Willis, there is no one who had any more joie de vivre than he. He loved life and … just adored waking up every morning and trying to live life to its fullest. So the idea that he now sees life through a screen door, if you will, makes very little sense.
He’s really an amazing guy. My sense is the first one to three minutes he knows who I am. He’s not totally verbal; he used to be a voracious reader — he didn’t want anyone to know that — and he’s not reading now. All those language skills are no longer available to him, and yet he’s still Bruce. When you’re with him you know that he’s Bruce and you’re grateful that he’s there. but the joie de vivre is gone.”
It is really heartbreaking to hear this update regarding one of our most beloved actors. It must have been incredibly sad for Caron, who has known Willis for a long time, to see his dear friend in such a tragic condition.
Emma Heming Willis Says The Illness Has Been Incredibly Hard on the Family
Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Heming Willis, also gave an update about the actor’s health and mental state in an appearance on Today. She talked about how hard it has been for the family to go through such a tragedy and how Willis himself might have no idea what he’s going through. She said
“Dementia is hard. It’s hard on the person diagnosed, it’s also hard on the family. And that is no different for Bruce, or myself, or our girls. When they say this is a family disease, it really is. It’s hard to know.”
She also revealed that she considers herself a care-partner in her efforts to take care of and ensure that Willis receives the best treatment possible. One hopes that Willis and his family find peace and happiness amidst these trying times.
