Ah, the foul-mouthed, red-spandex-wearing, fourth-wall-breaking anti-hero we all love to hate and hate to love: Deadpool (played by Ryan Reynolds). So, what is one thing that makes him stand out like a sore thumb in the Marvel universe? And no, we’re not talking about his charmingly crooked smile—although that’s a topic for another day. We’re referring to his relentless chatterbox tendencies that often land him in hot water.

Deadpool, or Wade Wilson to his friends, is as infamous for his cheeky quips and irreverent remarks as he is for his superhero antics.

And now that Deadpool 3 is out in theaters, we have seen Reynolds’ chock-full of cheeky jabs at Disney, the MCU, and even Marvel Studios’ big cheese, Kevin Feige. But interestingly, fans are wondering how Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine—a character as brooding and serious as him—handles Deadpool’s no-holds-barred humor.

Kevin Feige Responds to Ryan Reynolds’ Jokes in Deadpool 3

When news broke that Deadpool & Wolverine was crashing into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) under Disney’s glittering umbrella, fans were biting their nails.

The burning question on everyone’s minds is: would Deadpool’s irreverent, boundary-pushing humor get a Disney-fied makeover, losing its edge in the process? Spoiler alert: if you’ve seen the movie, it’s business as usual for our favorite fourth-wall-breaking mercenary.

The trailers hit the ground running with the same raucous tone that made the previous Deadpool flicks box office gold. Wade Wilson is still slinging zingers and poking fun at Disney and the MCU with the same devil-may-care attitude. One notable gag plays on the idea that Disney might work him to the bone, suggesting that his career might end up being an endless grind under their watchful eye.

And thus, it looks like Deadpool’s sharp wit is still on full throttle, giving both Disney and Marvel’s big boss, Kevin Feige, a run for their money. Speaking of which, the latter recently addressed these playful jabs in an interview with Variety, stating:

I didn’t say [that cocaine is the one thing that’s off-limits]. But we were talking about everybody always being afraid of Disney-fying things. This is the biggest entertainment company in the world for 100 years. You should be so lucky to Disney-fy everything!

Ryan Reynolds, being the creative mastermind he is, clearly has an ear for comedy and a nose for a good joke. And while Disney has been enchanting audiences for over a century, Feige also was of the view that it’s high time for a little evolution.

Did Ryan Reynolds’ Disney Roast Make Sense to Hugh Jackman?

Deadpool’s knack for breaking the fourth wall means he’s not just a character in a movie—he’s a commentator on the movie itself and the world outside it. He’s not merely poking fun; he’s playfully acknowledging the realities of the entertainment industry, making his quips feel like insider commentary.

However, these real-world jabs might be a bit of a head-scratcher for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Fans are having a field day imagining how Logan, with his centuries-old perspective, reacts to Deadpool’s modern quips.

Let’s hear what fans are saying:

Indeed, Logan’s long history makes Deadpool’s irreverent humor seem like a foreign language. In the film, Deadpool discovers that the Wolverine from his own timeline has kicked the bucket, thanks to the events of Logan. Determined to find a new Wolverine variant to anchor his universe, Deadpool sets off on a multi-dimensional quest.

He eventually finds a variant of Wolverine who, despite being older, is in pretty rough shape—his team of X-Men was wiped out, and he’s been drowning his sorrows in booze. But this Wolverine, despite his ancient age, still has a healing factor that’s held up remarkably well, making him a prime candidate for Deadpool’s plan.

Deadpool & Wolverine is a delight to watch and is raking in the big bucks. With a jaw-dropping $1.08 billion in worldwide gross (Box Office Mojo), it’s strutted its stuff right into the spot of the second-highest-grossing film of 2024.

Deadpool 3 is currently playing in theaters.
