The heat is on for Bungie currently, as fans demand to understand what happened to Cruz after he was suddenly banned from the game with no reason provided.

He followed up on the tweet to provide more context, stating that he was creating a build in-game at the time the ban was dealt, adding, “Literally banning one of their few remaining loyal top players.”

Alex Heinzinger, a fellow Elysium clan member, reposted Cruz’s tweet and expressed his anger at the game’s creators.

Cruz has since applied for an appeal. His tweet is making the rounds within the community, and many fans of the game were unhappy to hear about the company’s actions.

Not everyone felt the ban was completely undeserved, however. One user explained that the company’s actions might have a reason:

in a situation like this, it’s usually RMTing/boosting and they’ve been collecting evidence behind the scenes which they can’t show because they don’t want to give away methods.

Another user also expressed their suspicions, saying:

Yeah, if this is real, it sucks, but are we all forgetting what happened with bakengansta? Top pvp player, “suddenly” banned, community rises up in support, just for bungie to confirm he’s been cheating and previously banned 4 times?

This refers to an incident from 2021 when popular content creator BakenGangstA claimed to be banned from the game “with no explanation.” He was later exposed by a community manager for using cheat suites multiple times.

The issue with Cruz could go either way, but it’s no secret that Destiny 2 is plagued with cheaters, especially in PvP. This issue has been growing for years, and there’s an unfortunate explanation as to why there’s been an uptick in cheaters in recent times.

In response to content creator GJake expressing his frustration at encountering cheaters in most of his PvP games, Liana Ruppert, an ex-community manager, replied with a simple explanation.

According to Ruppert, the October 2023 layoffs severely affected the security team and could be the reason behind the increasingly rampant cheating scene. To make matters worse, earlier that year, Bungie had pledged to solve its cheating crisis by cracking down on third-party peripherals.
