Robert De Niro Rejected Martin Scorsese’s The Departed

With a flawless track record of one blockbuster film after another, Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese are undoubtedly the hottest creative collaboration in Hollywood. But Scorsese once revealed that De Niro was never one to accept all of his film offers. As hard as it is to believe, The Taxi Driver actor rejected one of the director’s cult films stating that he wasn’t keen on doing it. The film in question was one of Scorsese’s top grossers, the Academy Award winning The Departed. It earned a total of over 280 million dollars at the box office while also winning critical acclaim by winning 4 Oscars that year.

Despite the Meet the Parents star’s costly miss, the veteran director in an interview with Deadline, spoke about how fate always brought both DeNiro and him back together despite not working with each other for long stretches of time. With their 11th film scheduled to premiere in a few months, audiences and critics will be eager to see more of the Scorsese-De Niro magic.

Two Martin Scorsese Favorites Will Unite In Killers Of The Flower Moon

Apart from Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese’s lucky charm is undoubtedly Leonardo DiCaprio. The Titanic actor has been part of 6 of the director’s films. Now two of Scorsese’s favorites will share screen space in the filmmaker’s latest project, Killers of the Flower Moon. The film is a Western crime drama based on the non-fiction book of the same name by David Grann. The plot centers around a series of Oklahoma murders in the Osage Region during the 1920s which were committed after oil was discovered on tribal land.

The film which also stars other big Hollywood A-listers like John Lithgow and latest Oscar winner Brendan Fraser, will aim to shed light on the struggles and challenges of the Native Americans and their indigenous tribes. With DiCaprio and De Niro having a complete understanding of Scorsese’s method of operation, the film already looks to be on its way to success.

Killers of the Flower Moon will release on October 6th, 2023.
