Xbox Games Showcase gave us a peek into some of the video game titles that are valid Game of the Year contenders. However, despite Avowed and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 being shown at the biggest games presentation of the year, fans seem more into action RPGs, precisely, Black Myth: Wukong.
Despite bad news from Summer Game Fest saying Black Myth: Wukong is delayed for Xbox X/S consoles, fans of the genre believe is the game of the year. The action RPG pre-orders were opened on June 7 and since then Sun Wukong has made its way to the top on Steam, generating great hype around its release.

Black Myth: Wukong topped the China charts while also generating significant buzz in the US (#42) and UK (#81) just three days after the pre-order was made available. It is deeply connected to Chinese mythology, which may be one of many reasons the game is topping pre-orders charts. The game tells the story of Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, an iconic character from the classic novel Journey to the West.
The epic tale is one of the most revered novels in Chinese culture and serves as an inspiration for the Black Myth: Wukong. When stunning visuals and smooth gameplay of Unreal Engine 5 are implemented, with a wide array of enemies, it is no surprise that the game is already one of the contenders for the prestigious award.
The central character of the game possesses supernatural abilities of immense power and wields a staff, which is a perfect setting for a successful RPG game. At the Summer Game Fest, the upcoming action RPG got its release date trailer, and while it didn’t show much of the gameplay, the clip was just enough to make fans fall in love with the game.

Black Myth: Wukong is set to release on August 20 on PC and PS5, while the Xbox version will come later in the year at a yet unspecified date. Nevertheless, there is an online buzz among fans of the genre and the epic tale that inspired the game.
One fan already believes that this is a game of the year without it even being released yet.
Another player added to the hype saying that the charts did justice to the game and can’t wait for its launch.
These are just some of the many comments as fans can’t wait for the game.
The potential behind the Black: Myth Wukong is huge. The game has had a bumpy ride since first announced in 2020, though it received its Unreal Engine 5 makeover in 2021 and the release date is closing in, at least for PC and PS5 versions.
Whether all the potential will translate into reality is yet to be seen and will the Xbox version do Wukong justice? Until that happens, what are your thoughts on the game? Are you excited for its release like many others? Let us know in the comments.
