In an industry where the yearly refresh of games seems boring and formulaic, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 seems to have come up with a way to spice things up. Treyarch’s introduction of Omnimovement aims to redefine not just the Call of Duty series, but the first-person shooter genre as a whole.

One of the main topics they touched on was how they had hope for the new Omnimovement tech to change the way Call of Duty is played.

One of the questions that came up was about the change in pace that Black Ops 6 seems to have compared to Modern Warfare 3. To this Yale Miller said:

The intention was never to speed it up, I think. Matt can speak to this better than I can, frankly, but from the start of development movement was critical for a Black Ops game.

The change obviously refers to Omnimovement, the new movement tech that will be a part of Black Ops 6. Speaking further on this change, Matt Scronce said:

It really did start with fluidity. Again, we had a little bit more time, so looking at from standing still until I’m leaving a match or I’m done with the mission….or where can we push a little bit on fidelity, the death animations? You know, literally every single step of the way in taking those audits.

According to them, Omnimovement was designed to break traditional movement constraints, allowing for more realistic interactions within the game. The team hopes that this new feature will be well-received and become a staple in future Call of Duty titles.

The development of Black Ops 6 took a longer than usual four years, giving Treyarch the time to go in-depth on the game’s different layers. Using the unified Call of Duty engine for the first time, the team aimed to bring back beloved features while injecting innovative mechanics.

While they are trying new things to improve the game, one other thing that came up during the discussion has raised questions. One of the things mentioned was that players would require an internet connection to the game even for its campaign.

The commitment and intention that Treyarch has shown to Omnimovement is evident. The studio is planning to get some player feedback with a beta scheduled in a few months.

An early beta will give them the necessary player data, especially from highly skilled players who might exploit or challenge the new system.

This will allow them to see if anything’s broken, too good or too bad, and optimize Omnimovemnt to the high standards that the Call of Duty franchise, and its community has.
