Fans were skeptical about whether this upcoming title was canon to what was established in the original Black Ops timeline. It is safe to assume that it is since certain character deaths will be heavily referenced and the developers confirmed that Frank Woods will be experiencing survivor’s guilt.

Raven Software and Treyarch are using the success of older titles and piggybacking on them for future projects. Early leaks suggest that Raul Menendez will make a comeback in Black Ops 6 and not everyone was a fan of the decision to bring back older characters; however, it does make sense in hindsight.

The iconic villain brought nothing pain and suffering to the world of Woods and to see his friend, Jason Hudson, die a gruesome death at the hands of Menendez left him scarred and the developers confirmed that these events will heavily affect the character in the latest Call of Duty.

The potential of seeing these two characters meet again is exciting and could boost the campaign’s narrative with all the drama. Recent Call of Duty single-player content has been weak compared to what was achieved years before and the upcoming campaign could break the curse.

Teasers indicate that this game could lean more towards the political thriller genre and fans are about to experience something spectacular. However, the developers can’t help but pit Frank Woods against Russell Adler in one marketing promo to stir more drama before the release.

It is fascinating to see game developers take this approach and address how survivors still feel a pang of tremendous guilt. Menendez has caused Woods more grief than anyone else he fought and the rage he felt to watch helplessly as Hudson dies is something that will haunt him.

Woods did his best to serve his country, only to lose his friends, and is now parked behind a desk far from the field. These two men have a score to settle and there is a low likelihood that seeking vengeance will grant Woods the closure he needs to move on from his failures.

The developers can’t help but torture Woods even more and leaked concept art of him as a reanimated zombie has surfaced. Although none of this is canon to the Black Ops timeline, it is still a fate worse than death and not a mercy Menendez will grant him.

The gaming community is excited to see where the story will go. Perhaps this could usher in a new era for the franchise.
