Some members of the gaming community were introduced to the franchise during the Modern Warfare series and it was phenomenal. The original trilogy ended with the third installment but there was potential for another sequel if Activision chose to keep the post-credit scene.

There is no denying that the original Modern Warfare trilogy was one of the best series that Activision has worked on. While it may have ended on a somewhat positive note after the demise of the Makarov, there was a slim chance of another title if the post-credits scene wasn’t omitted.

In the short clip, there appears to be a man looming around after the death of the main antagonist. The identity of the shadow figure remains to be a mystery since the developers chose not to pursue this storyline. This ended the trilogy but in an alternate universe, the Modern Warfare series could have lasted even longer.

Perhaps the developers thought that the series might have overstayed its welcome and the gaming community is ready to move on to the next chapter. This shadow figure could have propelled the series to new heights and could have been the new main villain throughout that would be later reintroduced in other sequels.

Modern Warfare 3 Could Have Been the Start of a New Call of Duty Series

Modern Warfare 3 was a massive letdown for the reboot trilogy of the classic Call of Duty series.

It is unknown why Activision chose to remove this scene, perhaps it is to avoid getting the hopes up for fans of a Modern Warfare 4 which is not a bad thing. The gaming community grew attached to these characters and became invested.

However, some prefer something new and fresh. The rumored return of Raul Menendez to the Black Ops franchise did not sit well with fans and expected more from the developers. The community noticed the strong release of content for the current season of the present games like Warzone and Modern Warfare 3 to speed up the timetable for this year’s entry.

Activision is reportedly working on Black Ops: Gulf War and the fans are excited about how far the developers can stretch the narrative. Perhaps the scene was just a simple tag that had no solid plans and developers toyed around the idea of creating another.

The possibilities were endless but was never explored which was quite unfortunate. Activision had a great run with the original trilogy and fans fell in love with the franchise because of it and thought it was time to put it to rest. However, it is possible that the post-credit scene could have changed the fate of the series.
