“F**k no, f**k no, f**k no”: Call of Duty’s Latest Crossover is None Other Than… Nicki Minaj, for Some Reason?

Featured Video

Call of Duty has recently become somewhat of a crossover franchise, with big named crossovers including Twitch and YouTube personalities, big-budget superhero tv show The Boys and now, the biggest of them all, apparently Nicki Minaj and 21 Savage are due to debut in game.

Seemingly intent on copying the far more crossover successful franchise Fortnite, Call of Duty has gone from having somewhat related crossovers like Rambo and Die Hard, to pretty much any popular person out there.

Call of Duty x Nicki Minaj

Now, we’re not here to discredit or otherwise belittle Nicki Minaj’s achievements in the music world. The woman is a phenomenon with some incredibly catchy, if not particularly difficult to write songs. She’s topped charts and sold out stadium tours all around the world, but what exactly does that have to do with running around a e-battlefield, shooting and blowing up enemies in a PvP environment? Just like with 21 Savage’s reported upcoming appearance. Absolutely zip.

In fact, the crossover between the fans of Nicki Minaj and those of Call of Duty would be miniscule. You wouldn’t even be able to see the venn diagram connecting! However, the beautiful minds over at Activision have decided that this is the upcoming crossover, so we’ll have to wait and see exact details before we decide if it’s a stupid idea or not. It definitely is.

One infinitesimally small nod towards continuity here is Nicki Minaj was included and featured in the marketing before the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, so it’s not exactly breaking pattern, but it is still odd. Nothing has been said as to any particular perks, special powers (a la The Boys) or if this’ll just be two new featured skins for players to use in their online battleground.

With the recent spate of controversy surrounding Twitch streamers and their special skins, most specifically the drama surrounding NICKMERCS and him having his skin removed from the game, before TimTheTatman requested his be removed too, it is a surprising move that Activision are following that with two real life, in-person skins. Whether that’s due to this being signed and organised months ago is unknown, but both Nicki Minaj and 21 Savage are no strangers to controversy either.

All in all, a couple of new skins is nothing to scoff at, and this isn’t the first time we’ve scratched our heads at a crossover, what with the Lionel Messi skin, amongst others, and quite possibly with fan reaction to this leak it may end up being shelved, but thanks to HeyImAlaix and his datamining skills, we know for certain it is in the works now, whether it comes to fruition is anyone’s guess.

It seems anyone in the wider world of pop culture is fair game to be a skin in Call of Duty at the moment, so given the choice, who would you want to be introduced into the game? What tv show would you like to crossover with? Let us know in the comments!
