Arnold Schwarzenegger is known not just for his persona as an action star but also for his body-building career. The seven-time Mr. Olympia winner has inspired many aspiring bodybuilders, and his Arnold Sports Festival has been considered one of the world’s most important bodybuilding festivals.
Schwarzenegger also frequently gives out health tips for his fans through his newsletter Pump Club. The former Governor recently cited a research study that said that eating fries would give the same weight as eating almonds. However, he cautioned that eating French fries would be okay once in a while if the rest of the calorie intake is managed.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Opinion On Eating French Fries For Weight Gain
A good diet is necessary for an aspiring bodybuilder. All nutritionists and dietitians recommend that to maintain a healthy body, good exercise along with a good diet with plenty of protein and fiber and reduced carbs is necessary. A healthy and balanced diet does not prescribe the intake of processed food such as burgers and French fries.
However, Arnold Schwarzenegger recently mentioned in his newsletter Pump Club that eating French fries could result in the same amount of weight gain as almonds. Citing a research study done by Smith, Hanson Et al, Schwarzenegger mentioned that the researchers performed a study on three groups of participants, providing 300 calories of French fries to one group, the same amount of almonds to another, and friend laden with herbs to the third.
He said that the study found that there was no difference in levels of insulin, fasting glucose, and body fat between the almonds and the French fries after thirty days. He said that though the group who had almonds had a lower level of post-meal glucose, it was no different than a regular meal with carbs. Arnold Schwarzenegger also gave a word of caution,
“This isn’t to say that French fries are healthy or that you should eat them daily. However, it’s another example (in an endless list of examples) suggesting that — if total calories are controlled — there’s a time and place for foods you enjoy that don’t have nutritional benefits.”
Schwarzenegger also mentioned that the only reason he shared these results and studies is so that people do not go extreme in their diets and give up on their favorite foods, but to make more informed and healthy choices.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Motivates His Fans To Be More Optimistic And Positive
Many stories about The Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger have described how much of an optimistic presence he is. The star is known for motivating the people around him to do better and follow their dreams. Actor Bill Hader once recounted a hilarious story on Conan when he worked as a PA on a film called Collateral Damage. He said,
“The first time I met him, he comes up to me with a cigar in his mouth and goes, ‘Where is Jeff and Peter?’ Those are his hair and makeup guys. I go, ‘I don’t know I’ll find them’ and he goes, ‘Find them. Show me your leadership capabilities.’…I was like, ‘They are right there. They’re sitting in little director chairs.’”
The True Lies star also posted a research study on the connection between being positive and a longer lifespan in his newsletter recently. He mentioned how a study suggested that being positive and optimistic about the future boosts lifespan and results in the chances of living for 85 years or more. He also mentioned,
“The results were hard to ignore. On average, optimistic men and women lived about 15 percent longer than less optimistic people and were more likely to be ‘exceptional agers.’”
Arnold Schwarzenegger also mentioned that optimism was a learned trait and that spending a few minutes imagining to be one’s best possible self boosted optimism.
