Andrés Muschietti’s The Flash is not working the way it was expected. There are several potential reasons which include the handling of Ezra Miller’s controversies by the studio. Talking to Variety,  an anonymous industry veteran said that The Flash “should be opening at $120 million domestic” while one of the most hyped movies of the summer opened at just $55 million. “This is an unmitigated disaster,” the industry expert said.

Following the June 15 premiere of The Flash, the movie competed with a few weeks earlier release Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse which opened to $120.5 million.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, released on 1 June 2023 is still dominating the box office and is in the race with another animated flick Elemental to reach the number one spot this weekend while still behind the two movies. Per Collider, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse earned an impressive $536 million domestically and an additional $674 million from overseas markets with a staggering global total of $1.21 billion. However, as Screen Rant reported, so far The Flash’s worldwide total is at $140.9 million.
