Marvel Cinematic Universe fans were taken aback when the news of Ant-Man and the Wasp getting colossally bad reviews started to make the rounds. However, Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios has come out with a statement that has left the internet in splits. Feige has declared that MCU will survive for 80+ years.
Kevin Feige is Confident that MCU will last for 80+ years
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marvel boss, Kevin Feige spoke about the Marvel Studios method and how they strive to cater to both hardcore fans and new audiences. According to Feige, they want to make sure that viewers can enjoy their movies and shows without feeling excluded or the need to do homework beforehand.
“If you want to dip in and out and just go to the movies on a Friday night or watch a streaming series, you can do that. And if you want to follow along, there’s certainly much more to be discovered. But we don’t ever want it to seem exclusive or that you need to have done your homework before watching something.”
However, he acknowledges that some people enjoy doing the “homework” and finding the fun in the continuity and connectivity. He added,
“I’ve also realized that a lot of people like to do the homework. A lot of people find the fun in the homework and the continuity and the connectivity. But it is a balance of always trying to do both.”
The MCU boss believes in experimenting with different genres and tones. He cited the upcoming She-Hulk series as an example of an experiment that he is particularly excited about. According to Feige, the legal comedy with an expensive CG character is a very different tone than many of their other projects, and that was intentional.

He believes that every project needs to stand apart, be different, and be able to stand alone.
Kevin Feige also drew parallels with the world of comic books, where readers can pick up a one-off or an experiment from an artist or writer that they are a fan of.
“It’s like when people go to the comic shops. There’s Spider-Man and the Avengers and the big title ones. And sometimes you pick up a one-off or an experiment from an artist or writer that you’re a fan of. That’s why the comics have been around for 80-plus years, and I want Marvel Studios to be around that long, if not longer.”

He believes that this is why comics have been around for over 80 years, and he wants Marvel Studios to be around that long, if not longer.
Fans are in Split After Kevin Feige’s Statement
Feige’s statement about MCU surviving for 80+ years has certainly caught people’s attention. Fans of the franchise are excited about what the future holds. For most of the fans of MCU, the sentiment here is nostalgia. For kids who grew up reading comics and watching animated versions of superheroes, MCU is something that connects them to their past selves and inner child.
I'm just happy it exists because the kid in me that grew up with the 90 animated Spider-Man and X-men would have never imagined. Mcu has been mostly good hands this far so I'd rather have it continue than not, even with the flops that'll definitely happen along the way.

There’s so many stories and things they can build off one and another so this is very possible

Meanwhile, some are skeptical about whether this is a realistic goal. Some fans have pointed out that 80 years is not a short period, nobody for sure knows what is going to happen in the future and if actors are going to stick around for that long.
I doubt that…
80 years is such a long time, who knows what happens by then?
Superhero fatigue is a real thing and it’s already settling in…can’t imagine how bad it will be if it continues for another 80+ years!

He really thinks actors are gonna stick around as long as he wants it’s crazy

A user even pointed out that it is going to be very weird if it really lasts that long and fans have to watch so many previous shows and movies to catch up with the story that is being shown in the present form.
Can’t wait until you need to watch 700 movies and 400 shows just to be caught up for the events of squirrel girl 3

While Kevin Feige’s statement about MCU surviving for 80+ years may seem lofty, it shows that he is confident in the future of the franchise and is willing to take risks to keep it going strong. If nothing, he is optimistic about the future of the franchise. His commitment to experimenting with different genres and tones, while also appealing to both hardcore fans and new audiences, shows that he is willing to take risks to keep MCU going strong.
MCUs next release, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania will hit theatres on 17th February 2023.
