The adult animated series Castlevania: Nocturne has been renewed for a second season on its streaming home of Netflix.
Season one — which premiered on September 28th of this year — reached Netflix’s top-ten watched English television list within the first five days of hitting the streaming service, and made its way into that top 10 slot in an impressive forty countries. Acting as a sequel series to the original Castlevania — which ran for four seasons on Netflix from 2017 to 2021 — Nocturne takes place three-hundred years after those events.
Castlevania: Nocturne Continues
In the first season of the hit video game adaptation — set in a remote area within the western part of France during the French Revolution — a vampire messiah joins forces with the counter-revolutionary regime. The vampire plans to over-throw the revolution and permanently enslave the human race through the use of a vampire army. However, a sorceress and the descendant of a family of vampire hunters work together to stop the terrifying plan.
The brother-duo of Sam and Adam Deats will return to the director’s chair, with Project 51 Productions and Powerhouse Animation continuing to produce for Netflix.
The classic video game — first introduced all the way back in 1986 — put players in the role of legendary vampire hunter Richter Belmont. Utilizing a magic whip, players navigate through a terrifying castle on a quest to vanquish the most iconic vampire of all time, Count Dracula. It used platform-gameplay and was incredibly difficult, as were most games of that era. Being born in the mid-80’s myself, Castlevania was one of the first video games I ever played and I remember battling bats and ghouls vividly.
Castlevania: Nocturne perfectly captures the core-elements of what made the original video game so popular and adapts it for a new medium.
