Marvel has confirmed What If…? Season 2. Now director of the animated TV series has confirmed that season 2 will bring back Cate Blanchett as Hela from Thor: Ragnarok. Marvel Studios officially entered the animation space with What If…? in 2021. The series, directed by Bryan Andrews, premiered on August 11, 2021, on Disney+ with nine episodes. Bryan Andrews shared that through this series, he worked with A-list stars from the MCU. Marvel studio has confirmed season 2 of the animated anthology.

Cate Blanchett to Reprise Her Role as Hela in What If…? Season 2 

Thor: Ragnarok star Cate Blanchett is confirmed to appear in season 2 of What If…? Laughing Place, who attended the LightBox Expo, reported that Cate Blanchett would reprise her role as Hela in the upcoming season of the Marvel animated series.

The director shared his experience working with Cate Blanchett. Talking about the Australian actor Bryan Andrews said that he was amazed by Cate Blanchett as she recorded her part as Hela for an upcoming episode of Season 2.

Cate Blanchett made her first appearance in the MCU in the 2017 Thor: Ragnarok. The Carol star portrayed Thor’s evil sister in the movie. Although no details about season 2 are available, the director has claimed that fans would see the version of Hela in a way never seen before.

What If…? Season 2 Picks Up Right Where The Season 1 Finale Left Off

So far, the studio has not released any details regarding season 2 of the Disney+ series. Marvel did reveal a small teaser of the second season at the San Diego Comic-Con. Bryan Andrew was not able to showcase anything about the series at the LightBox Expo.

However, he did share some exclusive details about What If…? season 2. Other than confirming Cate Blanchett’s return, he also mentioned that season 2 would pick up right where the season 1 finale left off. He also mentioned a 1988 iteration of The Avengers, saying that it would be exciting to see who would be in the 1988 Avengers team.

While talking about the series, the American filmmaker discussed how he got Jeffrey Wright on board to voice The Watcher. He shared that he wanted to move away from the “big white man baby” image and had a voice in his mind. It was Jeffrey Wright. The Batman actor would also return in season 2 to witness more disasters. 

Bryan Andrews also shared his experience working with the Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman. He said Boseman was the first MCU actor to sign on for the series and shared that he brought another level of professionalism during their recording sessions.

Watcher to get more human angle in upcoming what if seasons
The Watcher in What If…?

Andrews shared that the Get Up On star improvised some lines that made T’Challah more humorous. The What If…? director shared that Chadwick had such a good time playing this version of T’Challah that he even planned on asking Ryan Coogler to give the actor more comic moments in the sequel of Black Panther.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will release on November 11, 2022. The studio has not confirmed the release date for What If…? Season 2. What If…? Season 1 is available to stream on Disney+.

What If…? Season 2 is expected to release in early 2023 on Disney+.
