Cyberpunk 2077 fans will no doubt be in high spirits as of late. With update 2.0 to the base game and the Phantom Liberty expansion, it is a great time to enjoy the game.
Further evidence of this can be seen in the upturn in sales, which on Steam saw the base game and the expansion recently occupy 1st and 2nd spots, respectively, in terms of sales.
Is Cyberpunk 2077 going to get another anime offering?
For those with a Netflix account, you may have already watched the fantastic companion to the Cyberpunk 2077 game, Edgerunners. The anime, which was released last year, helped increase sales of the game with its popularity.
We have seen many attempts at anime series to accompany video games, but many of these have been lackluster at best. So it is refreshing to have a series that is so well-received by fans and has such a direct link to the source material.

However, it now appears that this will not be a stand-alone anime series to accompany the game. Given the reception of the series from fans of Cyberpunk 2077, this is perhaps no big surprise. But no doubt fans are desperate to know what the next big thing for this series will be.
At a recent developer presentation, CD Projekt Red’s Chief Commercial Officer, Michal Nowakowski, advised that the company has massive plans for expanding the franchise. That is on top of the development of the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, Project Orion.
It was revealed that there is currently a live-action project based on Cyberpunk 2077 in the early stages of development. No doubt, fans will be desperate to see that project get off the ground and hopefully, it will still retain the links to the source material.
We only have to look at the live-action The Witcher series to see what kind of inspiration the developers may be looking at in terms of adapting a video game to live-action. However, at this time, we will not touch on the re-casting of Geralt of Rivia.

Nowakowski took part in a Q&A session and at this, he was asked what the plans of CD Projekt Red were to expand the franchise beyond video games. This question was no doubt in reference to the success of Edgerunners.
Yes, we do have plans. That’s why we have started cooperating with Anonymous Content [on the live action project]. We want things to happen,
He followed this up by stating that there was a lot planned and for a long time they didn’t speak about Edgerunners, as it wasn’t ready. He went on to say:
There are plans we’d rather keep quiet until there is something to speak about, until there is really something to discuss, some concrete announcement. When the time comes, we’ll tell you…
Nowakowski was keeping his cards very close to his chest with this response but maintained that this was indeed the direction that they were taking.
It was noted in an interview with Edgerunners Producer and CDPR’s Japan country manager Satoru Hunma that this was a standalone story and there were no plans to continue this. So what direction could we see it taking?
There have been several Cyberpunk 2077 Graphic Novels released to date, so it could be possible that we could see storylines from these used as source material. One thing is for sure, the future is certainly looking good for the Cyberpunk franchise.
