While the film has been received well by the audience, fans seem to have been irked by the film’s Cinemascore from critics. The action extravaganza features some creative action sequences and some of Miller’s trademark elements that had made the franchise beloved. However, fans seem to be annoyed with Cinemascore’s B+ rating for the film.

After returning to the post-apocalyptic Wasteland with Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road, George Miller set out to helm a prequel on Theron’s Imperator Furiosa. The character and Theron’s performance in the film was lauded and Furiosa herself has been considered one of the best characters in sci-fi.

The prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, starred Anya Taylor-Joy as a younger Furiosa and also featured Chris Hemsworth as the antagonist Dementus. The film follows the Imperator’s childhood at the ‘Green Place’ and how she made her way to the Citadel, where fans saw her for the first time driving the War Rig for Immortan Joe.

While many fans were delighted to return to George Miller’s Wasteland after almost ten years, critics seemed to have not been extremely impressed with the film. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga received a rating of B+ from the popular rating aggregator site Cinemascore. While the B+ is usually a good rating in terms of the aggregator’s scale, fans seemed to feel it was not enough.

Furiosa Falls Short Of Fury Road Despite Great Reviews

George Miller has been credited with helming two of the best action films of their respective decades. The Australian filmmaker began Mad Max with Mel Gibson, with the sequel Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior considered to be one of the greatest action films ever made. More than three decades later, Miller hit out of the park again with Mad Max: Fury Road.

While its prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has been receiving great responses from fans and earned $11 million on its first day including the Thursday preview (via Deadline), critics have been calling it a less-than-worthy successor of Fury Road. The Anya Taylor-Joy starrer seems to have fallen short of impressing critics like the previous Tom Hardy starrer.

While it is still early to declare if the prequel would go on to be a modern-day classic like its predecessor, critics have been talking about the action sequences and the storyline itself being less stellar than Fury Road. Charlize Theron’s powerhouse performance as Imperator Furiosa also seems to be sorely missed by the critics (via NY Times).
