Actress Charlize Theron has had a long-standing relationship with Dior. Beginning after her Oscar win for Monster, Theron reportedly signed a deal with the company Christian Dior to be the face of their new line of fragrances called J’adore. According to Chief Marketer, the deal was the first time the fragrance line partnered with a celebrity since its launch in 2000.

Theron renewed her contract with the company and reportedly received a huge payout. She remarked on how she loved to work with the brand as they always focused on the fundamental question of what it was to be a woman. In 2024, Theron would be completing twenty years as the face of the J’adore perfume line.

She told Harper’s Bazaar in an interview that questions of diversity and inclusivity were always brought up at the campaign meetings,

“Women from all different cultures, backgrounds, and countries are coming together in solidarity to say, ‘we are done’ and are acknowledging that we have to work together to stop this lack of representation. Any time I work with Dior, there is always a conversation happening about diversity and the perception of women and I’m lucky to get to work with a brand that is as interested in those questions as I am.”

Charlize Theron also mentioned that the Dior campaigns have pushed the boundaries when it came to defining beauty standards and that they always celebrated femininity in a powerful way. Theron’s image in the media seems to have worked for the brand as well as they continued to collaborate with the Mad Max star.

Does Johnny Depp Earn More Than Charlize Theron In His Deal With Dior?

Johnny Depp signed to be the face of Dior’s line of men’s scents in 2015. The actor was part of many campaigns for the brand which built on his rockstar image. However, Depp’s messy legal battle with ex-wife Amber Herd almost affected his relationship with Dior. But, the luxury brand decided to stick with the actor even when he lost multiple roles such as the Pirates of the Caribbean films.

After the public defamation trial that occurred in 2022, Johnny Depp was reportedly signed on to Dior again for a three-year contract. According to Variety, Johnny Depp’s deal with the brand was the most expensive deal for a men’s fragrance brand ever. He was reported to have a payday of $20 million for the three-year contract.

Other celebrities who were faces of men’s fragrance brands included Robert Pattinson, who reportedly had a $12 million deal with Dior Homme, and Brad Pitt who had a deal of $7 million for promoting Chanel No. 5. Depp’s contemporary in the women’s fragrance line J’adore, Charlize Theron reportedly had a much better payday.

Depp’s previous deal with Dior began in 2015 and reportedly gave him a $5 million annual payout. The renewed three-year contract with the company began in 2023, bringing his total earnings with the brand to date to up to $55 million. Charlize Theron has been the spokesperson for the brand since 2004. She reportedly signed an eleven-year deal with the brand, which was, according to Parade, valued at $55 million.

While the exact figures of her earnings with Dior were not available, she reportedly earned a $5 million annual payout for eleven years. With almost twenty years of collaboration with the brand since 2004, Theron’s earnings were estimated to be at least $60-70 million with Dior, giving her a more lucrative deal than Johnny Depp.
