Chris Evans’ Captain America is a beloved pop-culture icon and fans want to see the hero back again on the big screen. Evans’ super soldier was last seen in Avengers: Endgame, where he fought Thanos with his fellow heroes. Later on, he went on to live out his life in the past with Peggy Carter. He was at last seen as an old man who gave Sam Wilson his shield and made him the new Captain America.

There has been plenty of speculation about whether Evans’ hero is still alive or not. However, many believe that even if he isn’t, a multiversal variant of him can show up and help in the fight against Kang. But what does Evans think about it? He thinks there are more Steve Rogers stories to be told.

Chris Evans attended 2023’s C2E2 event, and of course, Marvel fans wanted to know if the star will return in Avengers: Secret Wars. It’s speculated that the film will bring together heroes like Evans’ Captain America, Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, as well as superheroes from Fox Marvel properties like Fantastic Four and the X-Men. To this, Evans said that there are definitely more stories that can be told about Steve Rogers.

As per the actor:

“It’s tough, because look, I love that role deeply. He means so much to me, and I really do. I think there are more Steve Rogers stories to tell, sure. But at the same time, I’m very, very precious with it. I’d become, you know, it’s like this little shiny thing that I have that I love so much, and I just don’t want to mess up in any way.”

Evans further stated that the role and his time in the MCU are special to him, but he doesn’t feel ready right now to return. The star stated:

“I was a part of something that was so special for the special period of time and in a way, it really landed so well. As such as I’m connected to that role and love telling those stories and working with those people. It doesn’t quite feel right now.”

So it looks like fans won’t be seeing Evans’ Captain America in the near future because the star feels that the time isn’t right for his return. It makes sense as well because he departed the MCU only a few years ago and the memories of it are quite fresh in people’s minds. Also, as of now, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson is carrying on the mantle of Captain America and he will be seen in his solo film Captain America: New World Order.
