Upon Thor: Love and Thunder‘s release, starring Chris Hemsworth, fans argued the existence of Eternity in the movie seemingly created a notable pothole in the events of the Infinity Saga. Considering Thanos spent years trying to collect all the six infinity stones when he could’ve just resorted to finding the Cosmic entity, some deemed it a plot hole in Infinity War.

Similarly, some also questioned the Avengers’ initiative to deal with the snap, which involved them going back in time when Thor could’ve just found Eternity and wished to undo Thanos’ actions. However, it doesn’t appear that the existence of Eternity in the MCU creates a concerning plot hole in the Infinity Saga, as we’ve got a potential answer to why Thor and Thanos didn’t take that route.

The Existence of Eternity Doesn’t Undermine the Actions of the Infinity Saga

While Stormbreaker acted as the key to reaching Eternity in Love and Thunder, when Eitri initially crafted the weapon for Thor, they had no idea it was a gateway to the cosmic entity. Moreover, Thor considered the existence of Eternity a myth until the events of Love and Thunder, so it makes it reasonable why the Avengers didn’t embark on a search for Eternity post-Infinity War.

In the case of Thanos, it’s likely that he wasn’t aware of the existence of the cosmic entity. And even if he was, there’s no way of him knowing how to find the Eternity. Furthermore, keeping in mind that Stormbreaker wasn’t even a thing when Thanos embarked on his conquest to wipe out half of the universe, it makes it evident the Mad Titan had no idea that it was the key to the cosmic entity.

Chris Hemsworth Wants a Drastic Tonal Change for His Potential MCU Future

Although an official announcement for Thor 5 is still yet to come from the MCU, it’s reasonable to assume Chris Hemsworth will indeed wield his hammer once again. On reflecting on what possible routes MCU can take with Thor, Chris Hemsworth stressed that the next potential entry in the franchise definitely needs a tone change. During his appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he said:

“I’ve said this before but when it becomes too familiar, I think there’s a risk in getting lazy then because I know what I’m doing. I don’t know if I’m even invited back, but if I was, I think it would have to be a drastically different version in tone, everything, just for my own sanity… [laughs] Thor lost his mind that last one. He’s got to figure it out now.”

While it’s hard to say what the MCU holds for Thor following their few rough years at the office since Endgame, a drastic tonal shift for a possible fifth movie will be a welcome change.
