When the Russo brothers were asked about the sub-par run of recent entrants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they had a categorical response – it was fatigue. For the past few years, the word superhero fatigue has been the buzz word. But the Russo brothers believe it to be something more, a fatigue with movies across the board. With the advent and multiplication of content, they believe that movies are beginning to lose their charm. But The Garfield Movie might have shown them the mirror.
The Garfield Movie has won everyone’s hearts

Featuring the likes of Chris Pratt, Nicholas Hoult, Snoop Dogg, Ving Rhames, and Hannah Waddingham, The Garfield Movie was expected to create a buzz amongst the fans. And it did. Audiences acknowledged director Mark Dindal’s genius. After all, it’s not every day that you come across such a well executed version of your favorite comic.
Fans couldn’t care less about the film’s measly critic score. It has won them over with the fact that it’s a near perfect adaptation of the OG Comics. Creator Jim Davis would have been proud of Dindal’s project, for bringing to reality his iconic comic style. But that isn’t the only thing to write home about for The Garfield Movie.
The Garfield Movie is projected to be a blockbuster hit

Made on a meager budget of $60 million, The Garfield Movie looks all set to strike gold. The movie has already earned $100 million worldwide and is expected to rope in something in the range of $250 – $300 million over its theatrical run.

And the 2024 flick’s blockbuster performance is something to behold. After all, it has come in an era when various movies have found it hard to meet expectations. Especially MCU movies like The Marvels and Ant-Man 3. The success proves that theatres are not empty if the movies are actually worth it.

Fans were also quick to point that out. Taking to X, they made it clear that the so-called lean run is just a myth.
but i was told theaters were dead

The Garfield Movie’s success also provides the makers of big-budget films a lot to think about. They can really take a cue from Dindal, who knows that the most important thing is giving the audience what they want.
It’s almost like conservative budgets are the way to go nowadays instead of making every film cost like a billion therefore making it near impossible to turn in any profits, especially in today’s inflation-ridden economy.

While Kevin Feige & Co. are not going to bother about their budget, the lean run that the MCU is going through might need some consideration.
