Chris Tucker did not want to act after working with Jackie Chan in Rush Hour

Talented comedian Chris Tucker has played many iconic characters over the years and is known for films like Friday, The Fifth Element, Jackie Brown, etc. However, he is famous for his role in Rush Hour with Jackie Chan.

However, after the film that gave him immense fame and financial success, he wanted to take a break from acting. In an interview with The Morning Call in 2001, he discussed about taking a break from Hollywood.

Tucker said,

“I traveled around the world promoting Rush Hour, and then I realized that I didn’t want to work no more, ever. I just wanted to chill by the beach.”

The actor revealed that he was offered multiple roles at the time, but did not find any of them interesting enough. He said,

“To be honest, I couldn’t find anything worth doing. So, I spent the time soul-searching and growing up. I feel I’m young, and I’ve got a long time to do movies, and I didn’t want to just jump out there and do any movie stuff just to do it. I wanted to do stuff that I was really going to have fun with.”

On being asked about the reason for taking up the role again in the Rush Hour franchise, the actor quipped,

“Being offered $20 million. No, I’m just kidding. What changed my mind was working with Jackie again. I knew that people would want to see us together again in this movie.”

Chris Tucker worked with Jackie Chan for two more sequels of the film.

Chris Tucker On Working With Jackie Chan in Rush Hour

Rush Hour is one of the most watched and highly successful movies in Hollywood. The thing that made it special was the odd pairing of Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. Chan is known for his deadly stunts and martial arts, whereas Tucker is a famous stand-up comedian. However, there were numerous difficulties while shooting the film. There were action scenes and thrilling stunts in the film, which was the forte of Chan but not Tucker.

“He’d get there the day before and pick up a trash can and a broom and work it into the action. Then he’d tell me, ‘You do one, two, three punches, and make it so simple I looked like I knew what I was doing.’ I never interfered. I’d just say, ‘You work it out and call me to the set when you’re ready.’”

Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker’s film franchise was received well by the audience. It made this odd pair a superhit partnership.
