Marvel actor Chris Hemsworth similarly pursued an opportunity to appear in a Costner film, only to face disappointment with a rejection.
Kevin Costner Turned Down Chris Hemsworth for a Movie Role
During his recent appearance at CinemaCon, actor Kevin Costner reflected on turning down the Marvel star Chris Hemsworth for a role in his movie. While he praised Hemsworth’s talent and looks, describing him as “handsome and so good,” Costner ultimately opted not to cast him.
The actor suggested that the movie he’s denied Hemsworth for is a love story and he is happy that the Extraction star loved it. However, he still denied casting him in the film, saying, “Chris will have to wait his turn,” as he is still young enough to play such roles.
“He’s going to have to go find his [own] love story. [But] I’m glad he likes this one,” he said. Costner left the door open for potential collaboration in the future, acknowledging Hemsworth’s status as one of the industry’s leading men. He suggested that he may pass down such roles to Hemsworth when he feels unable to continue.
Chris Hemsworth Recalled His Failed Bid For a Role in a Kevin Costner Movie
Chris Hemsworth has a packed schedule with upcoming films like Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Transformers One. However, the actor recently expressed disappointment about missing out on a role in a Kevin Costner film.
In a recent conversation with Entertainment Tonight, the Thor star recalled coming across a script that he really loved and was eager to be a part of. However, he was later told that the 69-year-old Yellowstone star already has that role. He said,
“There was a movie, a script that I’d read and loved and was like, ‘I want to get that,’ and then someone said, ‘Kevin Costner has that [role].”
Upon meeting the actor, he spent an hour trying to convince him to cast him in the movie but Costner firmly denied his offer, saying, “I’m doing it, kid.” Hemsworth further shared, “Didn’t work. I didn’t get the part.” However, he also shared that he would love to have the Waterworld star as a director.
He shared that the script he read was “a small story about a man and a woman.” The Marvel star also shared that the project aligns with Costner’s expertise in the Western genre. His wife, Elsa Pataky, also read the script and loved it.
