There were tons of deleted scenes from Thor: Love and Thunder that Christian Bale wished would’ve made it to the theatres. Perhaps, if that had been the case, then maybe the fourth installment in the Thor franchise would’ve made the cut which it clearly failed to, at least among the Marvel fandom.

Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor 4 had as tumultuous a journey as a movie possibly could. Encompassed by a horde of mixed reviews, CGI controversies, and an astonishingly successful box office collection, the 2022 film jumped through hoops to achieve all that it had. But it’s no secret that what the Chris Hemsworth-led movie really accomplished was a stale reputation amongst critics and sour reactions from MCU fans. If only they hadn’t scrapped all the presumably good parts, as Bale said, perhaps things would’ve gone differently for the film.

Christian Bale Believed Thor 4‘s Deleted Scenes Were ‘Gold’

Thor: Love and Thunder was Christian Bale‘s MCU debut wherein he starred as the galactic supervillain, Gorr the God Butcher opposite Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. But as much of a gala time that Bale had working with talented figures like Taika Waititi, Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tessa Thompson, the Oscar winner was still crestfallen that so much material which he believed was truly spellbinding, had been scrapped from the movie.

Speaking to Collider about the same, the Amsterdam star revealed how there was “an awful lot” that he wished would’ve made it beyond the editing stage of Thor 4. From “hilarious” and “creepy as hell stuff” to outright PG-13 stuff, there was a treasure of deleted scenes that could’ve accentuated the movie’s charm. But because the crew had wanted it to be “family-friendly,” they deemed it best to remove those elements altogether.

“There’s an awful lot that I wish was in this film, which you can’t have a four-hour long film because there’s so much gold that’s on the cutting room floor, hilarious stuff, and creepy as hell stuff, but that was perhaps pushing it to a realm where maybe it wouldn’t have been able to be family friendly, which we always wanted it to be.”

Even so, Bale, 49, still had nothing but respect and admiration for the director and his painstaking efforts at putting together such a box office success which grossed a gigantic figure of $760 million in its global circuit. Thor: Love and Thunder might not have been too popular among the critics, but it definitely managed to leave its imprint on the box office.

Christian Bale Hailed Taika Waititi’s Directorial Efforts

Singing high praise of the New Zealand filmmaker, Bale remarked how Waititi comprised not only creativity and humor but “great sincerity” as well. “Taika’s sensibility, the comedy, the tragedy, the ability to have the Taika-ness and the humor of that,” the American Psycho star said. “But he’s got great sincerity as well. He’s a real artist. And so, man, it’s moving.”

He further went on to point out how Thor 4 was, in a nutshell, an emotional rollercoaster, evoking a burst of laughter from the audience one minute and making them tear up the next. “That is the bloody surprising thing with this film,” he stated. “It’s a very moving film and then two seconds later, you’re laughing your a*s off.”

Clearly, Bale held the film dear to him, unlike most of the fans who felt the exact opposite.
