Christian Bale and his Reluctance for Iron Man

The rivalry between Marvel and DC has a long history, with the two heavyweights of the industry perpetually competing for market dominance and brand supremacy.

In a conversation with MTV’s Happy Sad Confused, Christian Bale confessed that he wasn’t a huge superhero film fan. He said that he hadn’t watched any of the Avengers films, and while he has heard they are good films, he is ‘quite happy just hearing they’re very good’.

When The Dark Knight was busy setting records at the box office and mesmerizing fans, Robert Downey Jr. was preoccupied with criticizing the movie for its convoluted plot and yelling a large, literal “f**k you” to DC.

The Iron Man actor alleged that despite watching the entire film, he was still unable to understand the premise, much less put it together. He even continued by claiming that he needed a “college education to understand” the movie, delicately but unmercifully criticizing the plot’s apparent disarray and exaggeration.

Bale is not fazed by the hype surrounding these eagerly awaited movies despite not having seen them. He confessed,

I have to confess, I’m not a huge superhero film fan. People seem surprised at that. I don’t know why. But I’ve not seen any of the Avengers films or any of those films at all. I hear they’re very good, but I’m quite happy just hearing they’re very good.”

Bale’s filmography following the trilogy exemplifies this quest for diversity. He delved into complex characters in films such as American Hustle, The Big Short, The Fighter, and Hostiles, showcasing his commitment to creating compelling stories and delving into intricate character studies.
