Quentin Tarantino has been known around the world for his iconic movies throughout Hollywood. Often diving into subjects that are deemed controversial, Tarantino believes in seeing the other side rather than a simple gunfight.
Creating his violent 1992 film Reservoir Dogs, Tarantino entered the big leagues but it wasn’t until his 1993 film True Romance that the director truly found fame. Joining hands with Tony Scott, Tarantino’s luck turned out great as the lead actor Christian Slater truly fell in love with his heroine.
Christian Slater’s Love Story Helped Quentin Tarantino
Back in 1993, Quentin Tarantino met director Tony Scott and wanted to work with him. Also being a producer, Tony Scott was heavily invested in Tarantino’s directorial style. Wanting to cast Robert Carradine and Joan Cusack in the lead role, the actors were unavailable at that time.
Thus, the lead actors were decided to be Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette. As per Jack Traven’s YouTube channel, the behind-the-scenes of True Romance were revealed on the Internet. As per director Tony Scott, Slater had already found himself in love with Patricia Arquette.
“Christian had a woody from the first time he saw her. It was love at first sight”
With Tarantino’s intriguing characters in the mix, the cast also included Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Val Kilmer, and many others. The movie was quite a success and Tarantino’s name grew exponentially in fame in Hollywood.
Quentin Tarantino Hated Stephen King’s TV Adaptation
Back in 1979, Stephen King’s book titled Salem’s Lot was adapted into a TV series. Being a veteran director, Quentin Tarantino was quite excited about the project. The director, however, wrote in his book
“When I finally saw it, I was prepared for something great. And man was I disappointed. To me, it just seemed like a stretched-out TV movie done in a very TV-style (and I like TV movies)…I tried to watch it again a couple of years ago and it was just too dull. I turned it off after about twenty-five minutes.”
Well, it could be said that Christian Slater’s real-life love story gave the actor on-screen chemistry with his co-star which added a hint of depth to the movie. True Romance received a rating of 7.9/10 on IMDB and a whopping 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. The 1993 film is available to rent on Apple TV+ in the U.S.
