Christoph Waltz to Reprise the Role of Blofeld in ‘Bond 25’

The twenty-fifth installment in the popular James Bond franchise will see the return of Christoph Waltz as the villain Blofeld. Waltz previously portrayed the villain in 2015’s Spectre… following in the footsteps of actors Donald Pleasence, Charles Gray, Telly Savalas, Max von Sydow, and Anthony Dawson who had previously embodied the character.

Christoph Waltz found major success after staring in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds (2009) and Django Unchained (2012)… in which he picked up two Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor. Waltz’s latest movie: Alita: Battle Angel was directed by Robert Rodriguez and hit theaters February 14th, 2019.

The production of the yet unnamed Bond 25 has had its fair share of problems; from initial rumors of James Bond actor Daniel Craig’s “disinterest” in returning as the character too the departure of director, Danny Boyle, the flick has had us wondering if it would end up being made at all.

Though The Guardian initially broke the news of Christoph Waltz’s return, The Playlist is giving details on the role he is to play.

At the end of Spectre (2015) Waltz’s Blofeld found himself surviving the events of the film but locked away in prison. This leads us to believe he will play a Hannibal Lector type role where our protagonists will have to meet with him in prison to get information about the, still undisclosed, main villain of the film (played by Oscar Winning Rami Malek).

Expect more information and set photos in the weeks to come. The film is currently filming in London. Waltz will be accompanied by a number of returning cast members including Daniel Craig as James Bond, Ralph Fiennes, Jeffrey Wright, Ben Whishaw, Rory Kinnear, Lea Seydoux and Naomie Harris. As well as newcomers Rami Malek, Ana De Armas, Lashana Lynch, David Dencik, Billy Magnussen and Dali Benssalah.

Directing duties are being taken over by Cary Joji Fukunaga who directed 2015’s Beasts of No Nation and a number of episodes of Maniac and True Detective.
