Christopher Nolan felt The Dark Knight was not his biggest leap

Christopher Nolan started his career with Following, which was a low-budget film. From there he has come far along, and now makes movies that have a budget of hundreds of millions. Some of his big-budget movies include The Dark KnightInception, and most recently, Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer. However, the director credited another film for bringing him into the league of famous directors.

Nolan recalled in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter,

“People will often ask me about taking on Batman or whatever, but the truth is that the biggest leap I ever made in my career was from Following to Memento. It was from working with friends, spending my own money, and then risking our time and effort, to spending millions of dollars of somebody else’s money and having a proper crew there with trucks, and trailers and all sorts of things going on.”

The film earned critical acclaim and became a commercial success. It assisted in establishing Christopher Nolan’s career in Hollywood.

Christopher Nolan was impressed by Guy Pearce’s performance in Memento
