Christopher Nolan seems to have joined the side against streaming services like Netflix and Prime Video. With his latest magnum opus, Oppenheimer is all set to debut in homes with a special edition of the 2023 movie.
Stating that considerable efforts had been put into creating this special edition, the director also seemed to insinuate that there were “evil streaming services” at hand amidst David Fincher’s comments on his Netflix deal!
Christopher Nolan Wants “No evil streaming services”
A recent tweet has been making rounds around the internet where the director was seen talking about the future of Oppenheimer. With the world around us giving way to streaming and renting options rather than theatrical releases, Christopher Nolan decided to go back to the old style.
In the video shared by the Twitter account of Variety, Nolan revealed that there’s a special edition of the movie being made for collectors (like himself) and ensured the people that “No evil streaming service can come and steal it from you”.
“[We’re] trying to translate the photography and sound [in Oppenheimer]…for a version that you can buy and own at home and put on a shelf so no evil streaming service can come and steal it from you.”
The director’s comments added fuel to an already burning fire of streaming vs theatrical release as veteran director David Fincher recently released his second movie in collaboration with Netflix which raked in quite the numbers!

Although Martin Scorsese does not consider the MCU to be cinema, the director has indeed worked with Netflix and streaming services like Apple TV+ for his movies. With the release of The Killer, veteran director David Fincher recently praised Netflix beyond belief in an interview with The Playlist.
“Netflix has never quibbled with this type of choice [expenses]. They adopted an industry standard that made sense to filmmakers. Netflix has by far the best “quality control” in all of Hollywood. We must move past all this nostalgia to finally ask ourselves the right question: who offers optimal representation today?”
Well, it seems that David Fincher is also right in his own way since Netflix has been known not to interfere with directors and their works/adaptations. David Fincher recently released his second movie in collaboration with Netflix titled The Killer which is already the talk of the town. The David Fincher-directed film is available to stream on Netflix around the world.
