Christopher Nolan’s biographic masterpiece movie which starred Cillian Murphy in the titular role of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Other than being a massive critical and commercial success, the movie was a cinematographic and acting masterpiece as well.
Cillian Murphy opens up about saying yes to Oppenheimer‘s script
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer revolved around the story of the lead physicist on the Manhattan Project, J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man behind the invention of atomic bombs, and how he was humiliated after he helped the USA win World War II. Oppenheimer had a very star-studded cast and many A-listers including Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, and Emily Blunt portrayed important roles in the movie.
In a recent episode of 60 Minutes Overtime, Murphy opened up about how he came to portray the role of the titular character in the movie and revealed that he had said yes to Christopher Nolan about the movie even before reading the script. He said,
“I did genuinely think it’s one of the greatest screenplays I’d ever read...I mean I told I’d do it before I had read it [the screenplay]…it’s always paid off for me on every movie I’ve worked with him on.”
Cillian Murphy further opened up about how he felt that the making of Oppenheimer was no less than a miracle.
Christopher Nolan’s antitheft mechanism for his screenplays
On 60 Minutes Overtime, Cillian Murphy showed his copy of the Oppenheimer script to the American journalist, Scott Pelley, and revealed Christopher Nolan’s brilliant strategy to avoid his script getting leaked. The script was printed on a red page with black text in order to avoid getting photocopied.
The Peaky Blinders actor further revealed that his name was also ‘watermarked‘ after every 2-3 pages in his version of the script so that if the script ever got leaked, Christopher Nolan could figure out who was the person that knowingly or unknowingly leaked the script.
Cillian Murphy also went on to talk about how a movie like Oppenheimer getting made and being successful is no less than a miracle. He said,
“And then if it’s anyway good, that’s a miracle. And then if it connects with audiences, that’s a miracle,” he said. “So it’s a miracle, upon miracle, upon miracle to have a film like ‘Oppenheimer.’ It really is.”
Oppenheimer turned out to be a massive critical and commercial success at the box office as the movie went on to gross almost $958 million against a budget of $100 million. The movie is currently available for rent on Apple TV+.
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer also won 5 Golden Globe Awards including Best Actor for Cillian Murphy and the Best Director for Christopher Nolan. The movie has also received 13 nominations for the 96th Academy Awards which is the the most number of nominations any movie has received at this year’s Academy Awards.
