The reason behind the delay was the potential discrepancy in the console version of the game. The announcement read,

“We’re hard at work getting the game ready for release. We’ve come to realize that we need more time to reach the quality targets we’ve set for Console.

We want to provide the best experience for our players, we’re updating the release window for Xbox & PS5 to Spring 2024.”

Publisher Paradox Interactive and developer Colossal Order stated that they will work on matching the quality and performance of the game across all platforms in this additional time. Moreover, more updates on the console release of Cities Skylines 2 will be shared soon.
