The trailer for Kirsten Dunst’s Civil War movie just dropped, and fans have a lot to say. Alex Garland partners with A24 to helm the action epic film, also starring Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Nick Offerman, and Sonoya Mizuno.
Civil War is set in the near future where Dunst’s character tries to survive in the middle of chaos: nineteen states separated from the Union, with Western Forces (including Texas and California) and the Florida Alliance involved in the conflict.
Kirsten Dunst Finds Herself In War-Torn America In A24’s Civil War
The trailer opened with dramatic scenes of destruction in the United States, with reporters narrating the civil war in the background. Nick Offerman, who portrays the US president, said in the video:
“Citizens of America, the so-called Western forces of Texas and California have suffered a very great defeat at the hands of the United States military.”
Kirsten Dunst, who plays a journalist, reflects on the events as she tries to reach Washington. She said in the clip:
“Every time I survived a war zone, I thought I was sending a warning home: don’t do this.”
Civil War is written and directed by Alex Garland; Gregory Goodman and DNA’s Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich team up with A24 to produce the project. The director previously told The Daily Telegraph that Civil War is a “companion piece to Men in some ways,” and is “set at an indeterminate point in the future – just far enough ahead for me to add a conceit.”
Interestingly, the article also mentioned that Civil War “will probably be the last film he directs; he’s planning to return to only writing scripts, at least for a while.”
