Ahsoka has just premiered on Disney+ and the pilot episode released on August 22 had a lot of surprises for the audience, like Clancy Brown. The Rosario Dawson-led series is blurring the lines between the animated Star Wars section of the franchise, and the live-action one.

Actors like David Tennant (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) and Ray Stevenson (Thor) reprised their roles from the animated world as Huyang and Baylan Skoll, respectively.

The audience, however, flipped when Clancy Brown appeared as Governor Ryder Azadi sporting the white beard that his animated counterpart had in Star Wars Rebels (2014 – 2018).

Clancy Brown is one of the many senior actors in American cinema who have, for years, taken on a wide range of roles. He played General Wade Eiling in The Flash CW series and The Harbinger in John Wick: Chapter 4. It appears now that he has a special liking for the Star Wars franchise as Ahsoka isn’t his first live-action appearance.

Clancy Brown’s Transition To Live-Action Star Wars

Clancy Brown, before his live-action appearance, was a voiceover artist in the franchise. Though he has voiced his own character from Ahsoka in Star Wars Rebels, the actor also did a gig in the 2008 animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Playing Savage Opress in Clone Wars, Clancy Brown is one of the most notable actors to have been involved with the franchise since 2008.

Brown’s character became an important addition to Star Wars Rebels as he played a major part in 12 episodes. Azadi helped in freeing Lothal after the Empire captured and imprisoned him.

Ahsoka’s first episode – Master and Apprentice has resumed his journey from where he left off in the finale of Rebels.

Ahsoka Isn’t Clancy Brown’s First Live-Action Appearance

Slowly but surely, Clancy Brown is solidifying his presence in Disney’s Lucasfilm side of storytelling. Though his character in Ahsoka is a hero in the franchise who helped the rebellion in more ways than one, he played a polar opposite character in another Star Wars series.

The Mandalorian, which starred Pedro Pascal in the titular role and also had Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano in the second season, was Clancy Brown’s first live-action appearance in the Star Wars world.

His heavy makeup, red skin, and horns made him hide in plain sight. Brown appeared in the sixth episode of The Mandalorian season 1 wherein he played Burg, the Devaronian Mercenary.
