HBO Max’s highly anticipated series The Penguin casts prominent villain actor Clancy Brown. He will reportedly play Gotham City’s mob leader Salvatore Maroni in The Batman spin-off, as per Variety. The character was briefly seen on a TV screen in the movie but was never credited.
Maroni, in Matt Reeves’ film, was mentioned to have been detained after a drug bust operation following a set-up made by fellow mobster Carmine Falcone. The character was previously played by David Zayas in Gotham and Eric Roberts in The Dark Knight.

Clancy Brown Proves An Experienced Actor When It Comes To Comic Book Villain Roles
This is not the first time Clancy Brown delved into the DC universe as he has previously voiced supervillain Lex Luthor in several animated projects and even video games. He is also a favorite when it comes to comic book adaptations. Brown has played Colonel Ray Schoonover on the Netflix original series Marvel’s Daredevil, and General Wade Eiling on The CW’s The Flash.
His other notable roles include voicing Surtur on Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok, Trident in Teen Titans, Parallax in Green Lantern, and Mr. Krabs on Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants series.
Salvatore Maroni first appeared in the 1924 Detective Comics #66 issue. Created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, the villain is most remarkably known for creating the origin story of Two-Face, also known as Harvey Dent.
