Gears of War is a franchise that isn’t afraid of experimenting with new mechanics. It’s also not afraid of letting you feel very, very afraid. Since the days of its original gameplay, the saga has come far in building some of the most scary and challenging foes in battle.
On that note, the original creator’s nephew himself couldn’t handle the jump scare caused by one of the earliest enemy types in the first Gears of War. To new players who haven’t experienced the game before, a similar reaction is to be expected.
Cliff Bleszinski Created Something That Even His Close Ones Are Afraid Of
![Gears of War still holds up as a game with some deadly enemies.](https://fwmedia.fandomwire.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/22001805/Original-Gears-of-War-1024x576.jpg)
In a post on X recently, Tyler Bleszinski shared how he and his son were going through the playthrough of the first Gears of War together. While doing so, they came across a Berserker.
These large and terrifying creatures can be brutal in the game, and someone like Tyler’s own son wasn’t expecting the jump scare.
Cliff Bleszinski (Cliffy B) responded to the post, mentioning how his nephew wants to probably skip out on any kind of sneaky strategy and go straight for the kill. He wouldn’t be wrong in doing so though, since Gears of War is a game that rewards you for quick and aggressive gameplay. Unless you’re downright terrified of a certain enemy type.
It’s also wholesome to see how Cliff’s nephew is witnessing a game that was one of Cliff Bleszinski’s earliest works in his career. He has been associated with multiple games like Bulletstorm and Superhot that blend multiple subgenres of shooter games. He’s well aware of how the world chooses to experience his works, and Gears of War remains one of the most important games he has worked on.
Meet Berserker, One of the Scariest Enemies in Gears of War
![Berserkers are unforgiving in every aspect.](https://fwmedia.fandomwire.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/22001757/Gears-of-War-Berserker-1024x576.jpg)
In the game’s universe, Berserkers are female variants of Locust Drones. What makes them terrifying isn’t just how they look, but also how it reflects in their behavioral patterns. For instance, Berserkers have an acute sense of hearing and smell that helps them detect threats around.
This compensates for their blindness and sensitive body types, leading to aggressive behavior that’s right up someone’s alley if they’re looking for jump scares at any point in the game. What makes them particularly difficult to fight is how they’re ruthless at breaking through any kinds of fortifications.
Hence, when going against a boss wave that includes Berserkers, it’s best to first kill the entire horde of enemies around so you don’t have to worry about mindless distractions and only focus on taking out the biggest threat at hand.
