CM Punk Jokes That He Was Married to John Cena

CM Punk has made a plethora of headlines thanks to his return to the WWE. Punk made his return to the company after nine years at the end of the WWE Survivor Series. Keeping that in mind, Punk’s popularity among fans has further ballooned.

Anyway, Punk recently made a guest appearance on Elite Comics11’s Instagram live stream (transcribed via Post Wrestling), where he shared his honest views on going head-to-head against John Cena in the ring.

Now I’m here [in WWE] and then being trusted enough to work with John Cena pretty much every day, every night for quite some time. We were married to each other and it was always a night off and it was always easy.

As we mentioned earlier, Punk and Cena’s last bout was in 2013, when the two superstars locked horns for a number one contender’s match for the WWE Championship. Considering Punk is back in the WWE, it doesn’t seem like a far-fetched scenario to see them wrestle again.

It will depend on whether Cena is available for a match or not, as the former face of the WWE last wrestled in April 2023.

CM Punk Knew the WWE Trusted Him Not to Hurt John Cena

Battling against Cena in the prime of his career was a sure-shot ticket to success in the WWE. Considering that Cena was the biggest money-making machine for the WWE, not every wrestler on the roster got a shot at facing him.

However, CM Punk was grateful to the WWE for trusting him enough that he would not hurt the face of the company during their matchups, regardless of having a fierce rivalry on-screen.

When you’re tasked with working with the guy who pretty much is the engine that makes the company go at that point, it’s kind of just like, ‘Okay, I figured it out then.’ I was like, ‘Alright, I know. They trust me enough and I’m not gonna do anything stupid, I’m not gonna hurt the guy.’

Punk concluded by claiming it was fun to face Cena in the ring. With the 45-year-old back to the company a rematch against Cena must be on the cards for the WWE.
