2024 is setting out to be a huge year for the Cobra Kai universe, especially with a new Karate Kid installment in sight, which will witness the return of Jackie Chan’s Hang alongside Ralph Macchio. And with the upcoming Cobra Kai season set to conclude the acclaimed Netflix show, fans are assured the sixth season is set to be the biggest in terms of both scale and fan service.
Furthermore, a new BTS Peek from the upcoming season has strengthened the rumors of Chan’s appearance in the show, which might not be too far-fetched to assume.
New BTS Photo Fuels the Speculations of Jackie Chan’s Appearance in Season 6
Considering Jackie Chan is set to return in the new Karate Kid, it seemingly confirms that Cobra Kai and the 2010 remake of the 1984 classic share the same universe. This has led many to believe that Mr. Han could make an appearance in the upcoming Netflix release, and the new BTS photo has further fueled the speculations. In the BTS peek of Season 6, the cast of Cobra Kai can be seen looking in the same direction in a revered manner, which could turn out to be Mr. Han’s introduction to the series.
And while there is no adequate evidence to support the theory, if this ends up being the case, it’d make the actor’s return to the fan-favorite role all the more impactful. Moreover, with Season 6 heavily expected to delve into Sekai Taikai, a worldwide karate tournament that was established in the previous season, this could end up being the point where the cast meets Mr. Han.
Not only would this make Jackie Chan’s return to the role feel more authentic, but could also end up being the ground zero for Chan and Ralph Macchio’s adventure in the new Karate Kid release.
Ralph Macchio Initially Got the Offer to Star in the 2010 Karate Kid Remake
This isn’t the first time Ralph Macchio was offered to star alongside Jackie Chan in a Karate Kid movie. During the 2010 remake, Machio was asked to star in the movie by its producer Will Smith. While the Cobra Kai Star was caught off-guard by the news of a remake of his biggest movie being in the works, he rejected the offer to return, even though he wished good luck to everyone involved. He explained (via Fox News),
“I just said, ‘You know what, I’m going to stand back, be a fan and see what you guys come up with. I think the legacy stands on its own, and I didn’t have any great desire to fit a square peg in a round hole if you will. I just didn’t know enough about it and what they wanted to do for me to really participate. They reimagined it and made a film that turned out to be quite successful and fairly well-crafted. It did well, but only in my view, it enhanced the legacy of the original.”
But as fate has it, Ralph Macchio did get to helm his biggest role once again in Cobra Kai and is now set to team up with Hong Kong legend Jackie Chan.
The new Karate Kid movie is currently slated for a release on Dec. 13, 2024.
