Lately, PlayStation has been trying its hands on live-service genre and wants a attract the large community of gamers who play online games. Concord, the latest online game from Firewalk Studios is another one of those online titles.
However, things are not going as planned for the company as the game’s launch has been very underwhelming. The game is being played by only few hundred of players and there is almost zero talk about it in the community.
Concord Is Another Failure for PlayStation in Live-Service Genre
Concord, the 5v5 first-person hero shooter from Firewalk Studios launched on August 23 for PlayStation 5 and PC via Epic Games Store and Steam. The game has had a disastrous launch as only couple hundred of players are playing the game at the time of writing and the peak player count is 697.
This is saddening to see, given that the developer says to have spent eight years working on the game. However, this is not the first live-service game failure for PlayStation as it has had several failed titles in its portfolio now and needs to do better if it really wants to make a name in this arena.
Before Concord, the 4v4 party shooter title, Foamstars, developed by Toylogic and published by Square Enix for PS4 and PS5 also failed miserably. The game was called boring and a mess upon launch and only attracted a small number of players and soon was abandoned by almost all of them.
Except Helldivers 2, Online Games Have Been a Problem for PlayStation
PlayStation has been trying hard to get into the genre and taste the success but it doesn’t seem to be happening. The company announced that it will bring six online games and one of them is Concord. After seeing how this game has failed to impress players, fans are now skeptical.
Helldivers 2, the co-op title from Arrowhead Game Studios that released in February this year, only has been successful. The game garnered a large player base, sold million of copies, and broke multiple records. Other than this, all games have been nothing but a failure.
Another example is the Lucid Games’ vehicular combat title Destruction AllStars. The game launched for PS5 in 2021 and didn’t find many playing it. A couple thousands players only played it and there were many reasons behind its failure including but not limited to lack of engaging content.
One title that could have turned things around for the company, The Last of Us Factions, the multiplayer title based in The Last of Us universe was unfortunately cancelled. Despite many years in development, the game allegedly did not get made because of shift in priorities.
