Warner Bros Discovery has canceled another upcoming HBO Max show. The studio announced a reboot for Constantine featuring Sope Dirisu, which was supposed to be released on HBO Max. But it was scrapped after the studio announced a sequel to the 2005 Constantine. Since the 2005 film starring Keanu Reeves, the character has appeared on screen in a variety of projects. John Constantine’s recent appearance was in Legends of Tomorrow season 6, where Matt Ryan played the character.

It’s been years since the first film came out. Hence HBO Max decided to start developing a new reboot with JJ Abrams. It required a British Black male actor to play the role eyeing an early 2023 filming start date.

Sope Dirisu Reacts to HBO Max Cancelation

After Warner Bros decided on the reboot, they started looking for a British Black actor. The studio finalized Sope Dirisu for the lead role with plans to start production in early 2023. But after Warner Bros and Discovery’s merger, the studio canceled many projects. The cancelation included mostly DC shows and movies.

Now that the studio has canceled the reboot in favor of a sequel to the 2005 film, Sope Dirisu has shared his thoughts on the decision. The actor took Twitter to react to the news. He shared a piece of fan art of Reeves’ character and wished him the best for his return.

Fans have praised Dirisu for taking the decision respectively. They wished him the best and said that they hope to see him play the character in the future as well.

One Twitter user said, “Same. Also, fingers crossed that Abrams gets you an awesome gig in whatever else he’s working on for WBD if things don’t work out with Constantine.”

JJ Abrams was responsible for developing the reboot under his 250 million deal with Warner Bros. Under this deal, JJ Abrams was supposed to introduce the characters of Justice League Dark with their respective shows. JJ Abrams also had to establish a standalone universe of Superman. But three years later, no such developments were made.

Warner Bros Confirm Constantine 2

Warner Bros has confirmed the sequel to the 2005 film. The director of the 2005 Constantine, Francis Lawrence, will also direct the sequel. The announcement received a mixed response. While fans of the film have praised the decision, others have expressed their confusion at its development.

At the time of its release, the film did not get positive critical reviews. It also failed at the box office, and it’s been 17 years since its release of the film. Considering all these people have started questioning the studio’s decision.
